Sir Alan Burnet Dies Aged 84
Veteran newsreader Sir Alastair Burnet, best known for fronting ITV's News At Ten, has died aged 84.
In a statement, his family said he died at a nursing home in London, where he was being cared for after suffering several strokes.
The broadcaster presented his last news bulletin in August 1991, after retiring at the age of 63.
Teenager Arrested For Attempt To Snatch Olympic Torch
A teenager has been arrested after attempting to grab the Olympic flame as the torch relay passed through Gravesend in Kent.
The 17-year-old boy ran at speed out of the crowd towards the torchbearer and was grabbed by officers from the torch security team.
They wrestled him to the ground and he was arrested by Kent Police.
The incident happened at 09:55 BST on day 63 of the relay which is travelling 105 miles from Maidstone to Guildford.
Torchbearer Anna Skora, 23, from Lublin in Poland swerved out of the way but continued with her section of the relay.
New Kent Beer Wins Highest Award
A new English beer made by a Kent winemaker has been named as one of the world's best lagers in the industry's equivalent to the Oscars.
The annual International Beer Challenge – which has been judging the world's best beers for the past 16 years – has awarded the ultimate accolade of a gold medal to Chapel Down vineyard for its Curious Brew premium lager.
The prestigious annual competition attract entries from the world's largest breweries through to the burgeoning band of pioneering microbrewers.

Man Dies In London Blaze
A man has died following a blaze at a block of flats in south-east London. Firefighters found the man collapsed on the fourth floor of the seven floor building at 11.30pm on Tuesday. London Fire Brigage (LFB) said that three engines and around 15 firefighters were deployed to tackle the fire at the building in Steadman Street, Walworth, Southwark.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

‘Piano Man’ returns home to Germany
The mysterious ‘Piano Man’ has been identified and has been discharged from hospital, it has emerged. West Kent NHS and Social Care Trust, which had been caring for the man since April, confirmed that he had been discharged from their care following a “marked improvement” in his condition.

Actor faces sex charges
Comic actor Chris Langham has appeared in court charged with indecent assault. The 57-year-old from Cranbrook, Kent was charged with eight counts of indecent assault and a serious sexual offence, as well as 15 counts of making indecent images of children.
