Boris Backed For Party Leader

Almost a third of Conservative party activists think Boris Johnson should succeed David Cameron to become the next party leader.

The current London mayor came out top of a grassroots poll conducted by Conservativehome.

Johnson was eight points ahead of his nearest rival, former leader William Hague.

Journalist Arrested In Privacy Breach Investigation

A journalist thought to work for the Sun newspaper has been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen good.

The 51-year-old is the eighth person to be arrested as part of Operation Tuleta, the Metropolitan Police investigation into computer hacking and other breaches of privacy that are not covered by the parallel probes into phone hacking and illegal payments made to public officials.

The Met said the arrest related to a suspected conspiracy involving mobile phone data.

Arson Attacker Jailed In Scotland

A man who was found guilty of trying to murder five people by causing a house fire has been jailed for 13 years.

John MacDonald, 43, threw a bottle of flammable liquid through the window of a house in Kingsmills in December.

His former girlfriend and her new partner were inside.

Five people were injured in the attack.

Veteran journalist dies in northern Iraq
Veteran Channel 4 news journalist Gaby Rado has died after he apparently fell from the roof of his hotel in northern Iraq on Saturday. It is thought that his death was unconnected with military activity in the area.

Senior Conservatives quit Shadow Cabinet
Senior Conservatives Nicolas Soames and Tim Yeo have announced plans to leave the Shadow Cabinet. The announcement follows party leader Michael Howard’s decision to stand down shortly as party leader. Mr Yeo, the shadow environment and transport secretary, said that he wanted to concentrate on “non-traditional” issues, such as the environment.

Jeremy Corby Elected New Labour Party Leader
Jeremy Corbyn has been elected the new leader of the Labour Party with a majority of almost 60%. Mr Crobyn beat Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall, taking 251,417 votes in the first round of voting. In his first act as party leader, Mr Corbyn has been selecting his shadow cabinet, with Tom Watson as Deputy Leader.

MPs briefed on Lord Levy arrest
Deputy Assistant Commissioner John Yates has told MPs this morning that the arrest of Lord Levy for questioning is not a "symbolic" gesture. Lord Levy, 61, the Labour Party's chief fundraiser, was arrested by police investigating allegations of "cash for peerages", but he was later released on bail pending further inquiries.
