Soldier 'Murdered Ex-Girlfriend' After Abortion

A soldier, who was due to serve in Afghanistan, stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death when he found out she had had an abortion, a jury has been told.

Lance Corporal Ian Lowe, 25, allegedly kicked down the door to Leanne McNuff's home in Droylsden, Greater Manchester, before killing her after he found out.

Miss McNuff's mother Margaret tried to stem the flow of blood but her daughter died on the way to hospital.

Lowe was on bail at the time for allegedly trying to throttle Miss McNuff while she was still pregnant.

He posted threatening messages on Facebook shortly before the killing, the court heard, saying he needed a weapon and stating: "Not even the army will help me out after all I have done for Queen and country."

Manchester Crown Court heard that the couple split up a month before the killing and after a violent row, Miss McNuff went in secret to terminate her pregnancy.

Lowe hacked her Facebook account on March 10 - the day before Miss McNuff died - and found out.

He then wrote on his own Facebook page: "Just to let everyone know Leanne had aborted the baby. She did not tell me or even given me a say in the matter."

Lowe denies murder. The trial continues.
