Taxi Driver Pleads Guilty To Murder Of Sian O'Callaghan

A taxi driver has pleaded guilty to the murder of Sian O'Callaghan who went missing after visiting a nightclub in Swindon in March last year.

48-year-old Christopher Halliwell, of Ashbury Avenue, sexually assaulted the 22-year-old office worker and stabbed her in the head and neck.

Miss O'Callaghan had left the Suju nightclub at 02:53 on 19 March for the short journey home.

After leaving the nightclub, Miss O'Callaghan walked past the Goddard Arms on High Street in the Old Town area and got into Halliwell's taxi.

He drove Sian to Savernake Forest, near Marlborough in Wiltshire, where he killed her

Her body was later found near the Uffington White Horse in Oxfordshire.

Bristol Crown Court heard Halliwell had been cruising around Swindon that night deliberately looking for a victim.

Sentencing will be handed down at a later date.

Woman remanded over student's murder
A teenage girl has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of 18-year-old A-level student Sian Simpson who was stabbed to death in Croydon, south London. Chelsea Bennett, 18, appeared before Croydon Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody.

Man Arrested Over Missing Swindon Woman
Police have arrested a man on suspicion of the kidnap of Sian O'Callaghan. Miss O'Callaghan, 22, disappeared on Saturday after leaving a Swindon nightclub. She was last seen in Suju nightclub in the early hours. Chief Superintendent Steve Hedley announced the news after police searching for Miss O'Callaghan appealed for sightings of a taxi.

Sian Murder Accused Remanded
The man accused of the murder of Sian O'Callaghan has been remanded in custody at Bristol Crown Court. Christopher Halliwell, 47, a taxi driver from Ashbury Avenue in Swindon, made no application for bail. Miss O'Callaghan, 22, disappeared after leaving Suju nightclub in Swindon on 19 March.

Sian Police Finish Search
After recovering a the body of a woman in Eastleach, Gloucestershire, Police have drawn their search to a close. The scene has now been released. Detectives are continuing their work to identify the body, believed to be of a woman aged between 23 and 30.

Bellfield Found Guilty Of Milly's Murder
A former nightclub bouncer has been found guilty of the murder of Milly Dowler. Milly, 13, went missing while walking home from school on 21 March 2002 in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey. Her body was found six months later in Hampshire. Following a trial at the Old Bailey Levi Bellfield, 43, was convicted of her murder. He denies the charge.
