Man Arrested For Attack On 16-Year-Old Girl
A man has been arrested after a teenage girl was knocked unconscious and left sprawled across the pavement in an apparently random attack near her home.
Shocking CCTV footage showed a man jogging up behind the 16-year-old and smacking her around the head.
The girl was left lying on the ground in Plaistow, east London, as her attacker casually jogged off.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "A man, aged 34, was arrested yesterday evening in connection with the assault of a 16-year-old female in High Street, Plaistow.
"He remains in custody at an east London police station."
McAlpine And ITV Settle For £125,000
ITV and Phillip Schofield have reached a settlement with Conservative peer Lord McAlpine for £125,000.
It is in relation to a This Morning programme broadcast in November during which the presenter handed the prime minister a list of names of alleged abusers he had found on the internet.
This followed a Newsnight investigation which led to the peer being wrongly accused of child abuse.
Weather Warnings Issued As Conditions Worsen
Heavy rain and severe winds have begun to batter parts of the UK, following Wednesday's downpours and floods.
Flooding has led to evacuation of homes and businesses and there has been major disruption to road and rail networks in south-west England.
More than 70 flood warnings are in place, mainly in south-west England and the Midlands, with 151 flood alerts across England.
Amber warnings of heavy rain have been issued for parts of Scotland and Wales.
The Environment Agency warned rain falling on already saturated ground could lead to further river and surface water flooding.
