Naked Man Climbs Statue In Whitehall

A naked man on top of a statue in Whitehall has resulted in part of the town being cordoned off.

Police said the man was clothed when he climbed on to the statue of Prince George, Duke of Cambridge outside the Ministry of Defence building.

An officer at the scene said the man had snapped off part of the statue and waved it about before throwing it down.

About 100m of Whitehall, near Trafalgar Square, has been closed off by officers. Crowds of onlookers have gathered at either end of the cordon.

Several police cars, police dogs and ambulances are at the scene.

Fake Tickets Turned Away From Mumford & Sons

Concertgoers were turned away from a Mumford & Sons gig in Portsmouth after being found to have fake tickets.

Police received a report that about 100 people were refused entry to the city's guildhall on Thursday night.

Fan Paula Wynne told BBC News her partner had bought a pair from resale website Viagogo for £200.

Viagogo said duped fans would be offered real tickets to a future Mumford & Sons gig or a voucher to the value of the original purchased ones.

Olympic Stamps Boost Post Office Sales

Around £8m worth of Olympic and Paralympic stamps were sold during the London 2012 Games, helping to boost profits at the Post Office.

More than 500 branches opened on Sundays during the Games, many for the first time, so the stamps, featuring UK gold medallists, could be sold the day after a gold medal victory.

In its first trading statement since separating from the Royal Mail in April, the Post Office said operating profit in the first half of the financial year was £61m, up by £5m on the same period last year. Turnover rose £16m to £501m, with "continued strong performance" in the mail business, especially packets and special deliveries.
