Three Men Arrested Over PC Death

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of an off-duty police officer in Greater Manchester.

28-year-old PC Gareth Francis was attacked after getting out of a taxi in Edgeley in Stockport around 01.20 am on Sunday morning.

He died of a head injury a short time later at Stepping Hill hospital.

He had been returning home following a night out with friends.

On Sunday police arrested two Stockport men, aged 20 and 21, on suspicion of the attack on Mr Francis.

A third man, aged 20, handed himself into police on Sunday night.

The three men remain in custody and are being questioned over Mr Francis’ death.

A post-mortem is due on Monday to establish the exact cause of death.

Three Charged Over Nottingham Fight Death
Three men have been charged in connection with the death of a man in Nottingham in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police investigating the death of 19-year-old Joshua Bradley, from Bulwell, have charged three men with violent disorder. Police said they believe Mr Bradley died following a fight in the city centre.

Man Arrested Over Kieran McGrath Murder
Detectives investigating the death of a man outside a police station in Greater Manchester have arrested three men. Kieran McGrath, 26, was shot outside the Sheldon Arms pub on 04 October last year. He then drove himself to Ashton-under-Lyne police station and collapsed outside its door. He died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
