Buxton River Crash Victim Named

A man who died when his car went off a road crashing into a Derbyshire river has been named as David Cox.

Mr Cox, who worked at the BBC in Salford, skidded off a bridlepath north of the A6 in Buxton while driving his daughter to school.

Mr Cox’s wife, Ruth, came off the road at the same spot just a few minutes later, she had the couple’s 9-year-old son Loan in her car.

Both cars ended up in the River Wye.

Ruth Cox, her daughter and son were all able to escape their cars, but Mr Cox remained trapped.

It is thought the weather contributed to the accidents.

The family, from nearby Blackwell Mill, were treated at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, Greater Manchester, where Mr Cox later died. Mrs Cox and the two children have since been discharged.

It is believed that Mr Cox was trapped for about 40 minutes.
