ONS Revealed Economy Fell 0.3% At End Of 2012

New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have revealed that the UK economy shrank by 0.3% in the last three months of 2012.

The news has fueled further speculation that the economy could re-enter recession.

It is believed the fall is largely due to a drop in mining and quarrying, after maintenance delays at the UK's largest North Sea oil field.

In the previous 2912 quarter the economy had grown by 0.9%, boosted by the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The ONS figures show that overall, for the whole year, growth was flat.
