'Fisherman's Friends' Shanty Singer Dies

A Cornish shanty singer has died after being injured in an accident at a music venue.

Trevor Grills, singer with the traditional Cornish shanty group Fisherman’s Friends, suffered severe head injuries when he was hit by a falling metal door at G Live in Guildford, Surrey, on Saturday.

54-year-old Mr Grills, from Port Isaac, died of severe head injuries.

Tour manager Paul McMullen, 44, from Disley in Cheshire, also died in the accident.

The incident began when the two men became trapped under a metal door in a loading bay at the venue at about 11:45.

The group, which consists of ten shanty singers, were due to perform that evening.

Police were called to the venue on London Road but later confirmed Mr McMullen had suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

Mr Grills was taken to St George's Hospital in south London.

Surrey Police confirmed he had died on Monday night.

The Fisherman's Friends are a group of friends who began singing together in and around the pubs in Cornwall.

They were offered a £1m recording contract when they were discovered by a music industry representative.

They have since grown in popularity and have even sung at the Glastonbury Festival.
