Tesco Pledge To Move Meat Production 'Closer To Home'

Supermarket chain Tesco has vowed to work more closely with British farmers, promising to bring meat production “closer to home”.

The move comes in response to the ongoing horsemeat scandal.

Having already introduced a new testing process, the store has also said that from July all chicken sold in its UK stores will be from British farms.

A National Farmer Union poll found 78% of people want more British food in supermarkets.

Speaking to the BBC, Tesco's Philip Clarke said he could not guarantee "right now today" that all of Tesco's products contained exactly what was on the label, but "that is our objective", he added.
