Survey Finds Motorists Damaging Car In Potholes

A new survey has revealed that a third of drivers have suffered damage to their vehicles from potholes over the last two years.

The AA/Populus survey of nearly 23,000 drivers also shows that a third of drivers also rated the condition of their local roads as poor, very poor or "terrible".

Meanwhile, the Asphalt Industry Alliance says councils may need as much as £10.5bn to bring the country's "crumbling roads" into good condition.

The government said it had given councils over £3bn to maintain roads.

Health Secretary Calls For End Of ‘Gagging Clauses’

Jeremy Hunt has called for “gagging clauses” in NHS severance agreements to end.

The Daily Mail reported the Health Secretary as saying he wanted to see a clampdown on such practices and would seek to introduce wording into agreements making it clear people could still whistle-blow.

But fellow Tory MP Stephen Barclay has claimed the move may not go far enough in dealing with a lack of transparency.

Morrisons To Challenge Internet Supermarkets

The UK fourth largest supermarket, Morrisons, will offer customers onoine ordering and home delivery from next year.

The company revealed it was in discussions with the online grocer Ocado to license "intellectual property and operating knowledge" but Ocado made it clear the talks did not involve Morrisons either buying a stake in its business or launching a full takeover.

Met Issues Warnings Over Icy Roads
The UK's weather office has issued a warning to drivers over icy roads following a cold weekend. A spokesperson for the Met said ice is likely to be a hazard on roads and pavements across parts of southeast Wales and much of England, except the southwest. "The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel," the spokesman added.

£165m Funding Announced For Congested Roads Across England
Congested roads across England are to be tackled with £165 million of funding, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin announced today. The announcement is the second tranche of funding from the £190 million Local Pinch Point Fund, first announced in December 2012.

Cumbrian Drivers Urged To Stay Off Roads
Drivers in Cumbria are being urged not to take to the roads unless absolutely necessary after a series of accidents. Emergency services have dealt with nearly 100 crashes in the area caused by ice. The A66 trans-Pennine route was closed for several hours after a number of lorries jackknifed near Stainmore. The M6 also saw a number of crashes.

Supermarkets criticised for ‘unhealthy offers’
Top supermarkets have been criticised for promoting more unhealthy food than fruit and vegetables by a new survey. The National Consumer Council (NCC) survey of 2,346 offers at nine of the UK’s leading supermarket chains, found that none met their target of offering 33% of promotions on fruit and vegetables.
