77-Year-Old Faces 20 Sexual Assault Offences
A 77-year-old former police seargant is to appear before Blackburn Magistrates' Court today on charges of 20 different sexual and cruelty offences against children.
Jeffrey Lake of Peregian Springs, Queensland, Australia, is charged with seven offences of indecent assault against a girl under 13 and four offences of gross indecency against a girl under 14.
He also faces two counts of rape of a girl under 16, one count of rape of a girl over 16, one offence of gross indecency against a boy under 14 and three offences of cruelty against a person under 16.
Lake also faces charges of two other sexual offences.
The alleged offences were committed between January 1960 and June 1975 and allegedly relate to two victims.
The charges follow Mr Lake's arrest by Australian police in January on suspicion of the sexual and physical abuse of children.
He was detained at an address in Peregian Springs, Queensland on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary before being extradited to the UK.
He arrived in the UK on Tuesday, March 26 and was charged and remanded to appear at court.

Fifty-five-year-old David Thorley, Head of Pembroke Dock Community School in Pembrokeshire, is alleged to have committed the offences between 2003 and 2007 in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. It is understood the charges relate to "sexual touching of children".

A man in his 60s has been arrested as part of the Jimmy Savile Operation Yewtree. The man, from London, is being questioned at a south London police station, following his arrest at 06.45am, on suspicion of sexual offences, according to the Metropolitan Police. The arrest is not connected to the allegations made against the late BBC presenter.

Extradited Paedophile Sentenced
A convicted child sex offender extradited to the UK from Mexico has been sentenced to a further 16 months in prison. Andrew Jeremy Eden, 51, was ordered to serve another the time for failing to notify police of his intention to travel abroad under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
