Bodies Of Soldiers Returned To UK
Three soldiers who were killed in a roadside bomb blast in Afghanistan are being repatriated to the UK.
Last month, Cpl William Savage and Fusilier Samuel Flint from the Royal Highland Fusiliers, the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment Of Scotland and Pte Robert Hetherington, of the 51st Highland, 7th Battalion were killed when their Mastiff armoured vehicle was hit by a roadside device.
The blast happened during a routine patrol in the Helmand Province.
The men's coffins will arrive back at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire this afternoon.
Cpl Savage, 30, from Ardrossan, Ayrshire, is survived by his wife Lyndsey, who is expecting their first child. Fusilier Flint, was 21-years-old and from Blackpool, while Pte Hetherington, 25, was born in the US but grew up in Scotland.
Following the attack, the Ministry of Defence said it was the first time soldiers travelling in a Mastiff have died. The vehicle is considered one of the safest armoured transports used by the British Army.
Six other soldiers were injured in the explosion in the district of Nahr-e Saraj.

Inquest Into Death Of Senior Officer
The inquest into the death of the most senior officer to be killed in Afghanistan and his teenage colleague will begin today. Lt Col Rupert Thorneloe, 39, of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, was in charge of more than 1,000 soldiers. He is the most senior British Army officer to be killed in action since the Falklands.

Two Die In Deadly Afghanistan Attack
There's news of further casualties in Afghanistan overnight and while two soldiers from The Parachute Regiment have been killed in a shoot-out, there are also local reports that a third soldier - who comes from Co Antrim in Northern Ireland - is seriously ill with stomach wounds sustained in the same tragic incident.

The Ministry of Defence have named two British soldiers killed on patrol in southern Afghanistan. On Wednesday, Pte Lewis Hendry, of 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, and Pte Conrad Lewis, of 4th Battalion The Parachute Regiment, died in small arms fire. Both soldiers had been patrolling in the north of Nad-e Ali district in Helmand.

Two British soldiers killed in an explosion in Afghanistan have been named by the Ministry of Defence. Private Ben Ford, 18, and Private Damian Wright, 23, were both from the 2nd Battallion The Mercian Regiment. They were taking part in a routine reassurance patrol when the WMIK Landrover vehicle they were travelling in was caught in an explosion.
