Noughts & Crosses Author Named New Children’s Laureate

Malorie Blackman, the best selling author of the Nought & Crosses series, has been named as the new Children’s Laureate.

A professional author for more than 20 years, Blackman said she felt it was time to “give something back”.

She has said she hopes technology can help young people engage more with books, and called on teachers and parents to spend at least 10 minutes a day reading with children.

Former High Court Judge To Investigate Stuart Hall’s Time At BBC

Allegations that Stuart Hall committed sexual assaults during his five-decade career at the BBC are to be investigated by retired high court judge, Dame Linda Dobbs.

In May Hall admitted a string of historic sex offences against girls and was described as an "opportunistic predator".

Dobbs, a retired high court judge and former chair of the Criminal Bar Association, will investigation hall's conduct during his time at the BBC.

The inquiry will encompass Hall's career at the BBC between 1958 and 2013.

’High Profile’ Protest Planned For London During G8 Summit

A high-profile series of protests are to be staged in the heart of London's business district during this month's G8 summit.

Anti-cuts campaigners and environmentalists are coming together under the banner "They Owe Us" and have promised to stage "creative civil disobedience" in Canary Wharf.

The summit is taking place in Northern Ireland and will see the world's most powerful political leaders come together at Lough Erne resort near Enniskillen.

Man Wins Gay Wedding Facebook Comment Case
A Christian who was demoted in his job for a comment he wrote on Facebook about gay marriages has won a breach of contract action against his employers. Adrian Smith, 55, lost his managerial position and had a 40% salary cut after saying a gay wedding held in a church was an "equality too far".

The BBC Trust has launched its service review of BBC Parliament and BBC News Channel, as part of its rolling programme of service reviews. The review will look at the current performance of BBC Parliament and the News Channel - including the stations' quality, distinctiveness and value for money - and the BBC's future plans for the services.

Stuart Hall Rearrested On Further Charges Of Sexual Abuse
Former BBC presenter Stuart Hall has been rearrested in prison on futher charges of sexual abuse. Hall, 83, is currently serving a 30 month sentence after admitting 14 counts of abuse of girls aged from nine to 17 between 1967 and 1985.

Jail Term Doubled For Stuart Hall
The Court of Appeal has doubled the 15-month sentence handed down to former BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall for a series of indecent assaults. Hall's original sentence of 15-months was ruled to be "unduly lenient". The 83-year-old had admitted 14 counts of indecent assault against girls aged 9 to 17, between 1967 and 1985.
