Hacker Convicted For Possession Of Indecent Images Could Be Released

A 21-year-old convicted computer hacker, previously sentenced to two years and eight months for hacking activity, has been given a community order for producing and having indecent images of children.

Ryan Cleary, convicted for his activities with the hacker group LulzSec, was found with 172 images on two computers when police raided his mothers home in 2011.

It is now expected that he will be released after he was sentenced for two counts of making indecent images and one of possessing indecent images.

At Southwark Crown Court, Judge Deborah Taylor is reported to have said that while a custodial sentence is recommended by the guidelines, "time has been served in any event".

Reporting on the case the Guardian reported that the judge took into consideration Cleary's guilty plea to all charges and time served on remand or wearing an electronic tag.

With these considered, Cleary has served 18 months and 18 days in custody, time which his defence lawyer says makes his eligible for release.

At Cleary's trial in May, the court heard he suffers from Asperger's syndrome, which his defence lawyers argued could be linked to his activity online.
