Boat Race Protester Faces Deportation
Trenton Oldfield, the man who disrupted last year's University Boat Race, has been refused leave to remain in the UK.
According to the BBC, the Home Office said Mr Oldfield's presence in the UK was not "conducive to the public good".
Oldfield interrupted the 158th boat race between Oxford and Cambridge when he began swimming in front of the crews during the competition. Following the incident, he was jailed for six months after being found guilty of causing a public nuisance.
The Australian told Isleworth Crown Court that his actions were a protest against elitism and inequality.
A Home Office spokesman said: "Those who come to the UK must abide by our laws.
"We refused this individual leave to remain because we do not believe his presence in this country is conducive to the public good."
Oldfield, who has a British wife, Deepa Naik and is currently expecting a child, said he had appealed against the decision.

The race was stopped on 7 April when the Oxford and Cambridge boats were side by side near Chiswick Eyot after a man was seen swimming in the path of the boats.

The government is to begin consultation on proposals to ban smoking in most public places in England. The government hopes that the consultation will lead to a Bill being introduced in the autumn. The ‘Choosing Health’ Public Health White Paper published last November, unveiled proposals to ban smoking in all enclosed public spaces and workplaces.

Boat Race Spectators Rescued By RNLI
The RNLI rescued more than 50 spectators who became trapped by the tide during the University Boat Race on Saturday. Spectators became stranded on the foreshore along Hammersmith, Chiswick and Barnes, including an eight-year-old child who had become separated from his parents.
