HLF Invest £47m In UK Heritage Sites

Six heritage tourism projects in England and Wales are to share a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) investment of £47 million, aimed at enhancing and promoting, " a better understanding of our heritage".

With UK heritage tourism reportedly contributing £26bn to the ecomony, HLF said: "These projects all offer the public the chance to explore and enjoy our rich and complex history."

The sites will including Winchester Cathedral in Hampshire and the Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery, Powys.

The largest share of the money, £12.8 million, has been allocated to Fax Mill Maltings in Shropshire and will be used to develop a complex of 18th and 19th Century industrial buildings in Shrewsbury.

HLF Allocate £1.3m To 'Saving Gower' Project
The UK's first designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' has been pledged a grant of some £1.3 million to secure its future. The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) had allocated the money to Gower in south Wales for the "Saving Gower - for All its Worth" project.

Heritage Lottery Grants For 10 Projects In Wales
A total of £2.6m is to be invested by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) in 10 projects across Wales. The grants will benefit both small and large communities, and provide some much-needed support for the country's industrial, maritime, natural and sporting heritage.

Heritage sites in developing countries to gain from UK expertise
Heritage Minister Andrew McIntosh today welcomed a UK-Unesco Co-operation Agreement which will enable developing countries to benefit from UK heritage and conservation expertise.
