Coalition To Hand Over £520k Will Bequest
The coalition government is to hand over £0.5m to the Treasury, after it was left to the UK by a nurse who died last year.
The Tories and Lib Dems had initially treated the money as a political donation, as nurse Joan Edwards had left the £520,000 sum to "whichever government is in office."
It was then divided up between the coalition, with the Lib Dems getting £99,423 and Tories £420,576.
But following calls from Labour and some Conservative MPs, the coalition said it would give up the funding.
The news follows yesterday's publication of party donors by the Electoral Commission.
Nurse Edwards was born in Bristol in 1921, and lived there all her life. She never married, but worked as a nurse and midwife before dying last year.
Her bequest made her the biggest donor to the Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties in the second quarter of the year.

Lib Dems Suffer At The Polls
After taking a punishment at the polls in the English local elections, Nick Clegg has said his party is being blamed for coalition spending cuts. So far the votes indicate almost a fifty percent cut of Lib Dem councillors, with the majority of lost seats in northern cities. The Conservative vote is standing strong.

The Liberal Democrats have suffered defeat in a vote over supporting new free schools. The schools, due to open next year, have been a contentious issue with activists opposing the coalition proposal and calling for the party to urge people turn their backs on it.

British Soldier Killed In Iraq
A British soldier has been killed while serving in Iraq, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced. The soldier, from the Parachute Regiment, is reported to have died on Wednesday 5 September. The MoD said he sustained fatal injuries while conducting routine operations in support of ongoing Coalition activity.

Five Coalition soldiers killed in Iraq bomb attack
Five Coalition soldiers have been killed in an area west of Baghdad today when the vehicle they were travelling in was destroyed by a roadside bomb, it has been reported today. The nationalities of the soldiers has not yet been confirmed. However, Bloomberg has reported that the five were US military personnel.
