GMP Not Investigating All Reported Crime
More than half of all crimes reported to one of the UK's largest police forces is not investigated, according to the chief constable of Greater Manchester Police.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Sir Peter Fahy said that officers could only focus on about 40% of reported crime, adding that his force followed a strategy in use by other police forces.
He did however, stress that all reports were initially investigated to establish if a "line or inquiry" existed.
Speaking on the programme, Sir Fahy said that if a case had no reasonable line of inquiry he didn't "think the public would expect us to pursue that".
He added that it was a balance between "investigating crime after it has happened and targeting known offenders. Most crime is committed by a relatively small group of persistent offenders."

The overall crime rate in England and Wales is continuing to fall, according to the results of the British Crime Survey (BCS). The survey showed that the overall crime rate fell by 11%, in the year ending September 2004.

The Chief Inspector of Constabulary has reported that police forces in England and Wales are caught up in a maze of red tape. Sir Ronnie Flanagan in his 'Review of Policing' has said that police forces would continue to "over-record and under-deliver" as officers were concerned about criticism of their performance and weighed down by bureaucracy.

18% Rise In Retail Crime
Retail crime increased by 18% in 2013/14, costing the sector £603m, according to the latest report from the British Retail Consortium (BRC). According to to the report shoplifting, cyber-crime and fraud are now at a ten year high, with an estimated 3m offences perpetrated against the retail industry in the time period.

Police Find Woman And Children In Refrigerated Lorry
Police in Bristol have discovered a woman and two children in the back of a refrigerated lorry. Avon and Somerset Police said the driver of the lorry reported hearing voices from inside the lorry. Police believe the woman and children were in the back of the lorry for two days before being discovered.
