Pictures seized by police investigating desecration of body

Police investigating the desecration of a Muslim woman’s body in the mortuary of a London hospital have seized 2,000 pictures in raid on a house in London.

It is understood that the photographs, which show dead bodies, were taken in the mortuary of Hillingdon Hospital.

Police found the slides, photographs and negatives during a raid on the house of a man, who has been accused of theft from the mortuary. A spokesperson for Scotland Yard confirmed that there was no evidence that the bodies pictured had been defiled and that the subjects varied in age, sex and race. Police are attempting to establish if the photographs were taken illegally.

The body of the woman was found with bacon rashers placed on her body. On religious grounds Muslims are prohibited from touching or eating pork.

Another incident in 1996, when pen marks were discovered on the body of a white woman in the mortuary - which was not reported to police at the time - is also being investigated. The family has been contacted about this incident.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the desecration of bodies in the mortuary of Hillingdon Hospital to contact detectives at Scotland Yard.
