Child Abuse Accused BBC Driver Found Dead

Former BBC driver, David Smith, was found dead on the day he was due to stand trial for sex offences.

Smith (67), of Lewisham, south-east London, failed to appear for the opening of his trial at Southwark Crown Court over the alleged abuse of a 12-year-old boy in 1984.

He was charged with two counts of indecent assault, two of indecency and one of a serious sexual offence.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on Monday when he failed to appear for court.

Officers were sent to his home after attempts to contact him failed.

According to reports, officers found a body at his Lewisham home and a forensic examiner pronounced death at approximately 14:20.

Smith had been charged part of Operation Yewtree and was the first to be charged under the investigation into historical cases of abuse set up following the Jimmy Savile revelations.

23 Charged With Drug Offences Following Raids
More than 20 people have been charged with drug offences following a number of raids carried out in London, Gravesend, Dover and Deal. A total of 23 people were arrested during twenty raids carried out over three days. The suspects, ranging in age from 17 to 52, have all been charged in connection with the supply of class A drugs.

Teen Appears In Court Charged With The Murder Of Four Siblings
A 19-year-old has appeared in court charged with the murder of four children who died in a house fire. Dyson Allen is accused of killing siblings Jordon Smith, 2, twins Holly and Ella, 4, and Reece, 19. They all died of smoke inhalation at a bungalow in Freckleton, Lancashire, in January. Their mother was saved by firefighters.

Mobile Customers To Share £1m Refund
Mobile provide EE is to refund around £1m to a number of customers wrongly charged VAT between October 2012 and October 2014. It is understood that EE customers who travelled outside the EU during those dates and used internet data were affected by the charges. The company estimated it as being about 0.5% of its customers.
