RMT Unions Vow To 'Fight' Against LU Closures

Tube workers are to be balloted over proposed industrial action, following the recent announcement of the closure of all London Underground (LU) ticket offices and the lose of 750 jobs.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) unions has vowed to "fight" against LU closures and job cuts.

RMT are required to hold a two-week ballot and must give Transport for London seven days' notice before any strike action takes place.

RMT Announce Five Days Of Strike Action Over Closures
Five days of strike action has been announced by workers on London Underground (LU) in a dispute over ticket office closures. Announcing the action, the RMT have said the work stoppages are in protest at plans to close all of LU's 260 ticket offices and the loss of 960 jobs.

RMT Ends Discussions With London Underground
The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has ended its talks with London Underground over an £850 bonus being offered to Tube workers during the Olympics. RMT said they ended discussions taking place at conciliation service Acas after London Underground (LU) attempted to make more demands on staff.

Talks Resume Between LU and Union Reps
Negotiators representing London Underground (LU) have resumed talks with union officials in an effort to avert a planned 48-hour Tube strike. Conciliation service Acas are hosting the talks, which are now entering their 11th day. The dispute is over plans to close LU ticket offices.

Commuters Face Further Tube Delays
Commuters in London are still facing travel misery on the Tube, despite the fact that a 72-hour strike by maintenance workers has been called off. The RMT union called off the strike action, which began at 6pm on Monday and involved around 2,300 employees, following talks with London Underground officials.

Rail strike plan shelved
The RMT union has suspended a rail strike that would have hit workers trying to get home to see the England game against Sweden on Tuesday, June 20. However, plans for a strike on June 25, which would clash with the World Cup second round game if England win through to play as winner or runner-up in Group B remain in place.
