A man who raped a woman after luring her to his address in Sutton with a job advert has been jailed for 17 years.

Atanas Miryanov, 38, a Bulgarian national, told his victim to attend the bedsit in Sutton Common Road on 1 July 2013, after she responded to an online advert seeking women to work at a carwash.

The 26-year-old, who is also Bulgarian, communicated with a man she believed was called 'Georgi' and on arrival was told she would be living at the venue if her application was successful.

She was told that the manager of the carwash would be arriving later and was made to wait for several hours while Georgi, who was actually Miryanov, drank alcohol and became increasingly drunk.

The victim decided to leave but as she tried to do so, Miryanov grabbed her, threw her on to a bed and raped her.

In desperation, the women feigned an asthma attack but this only prompted Miryanov to attempt to rape her again, while he also threatened her with a knife. She managed to get to a second floor window in a bid to escape, but Miryanov then tried to push her out of it.

The victim's screams were heard by several passers-by and other occupants of the property, leading to police being called.

Officers attended and arrested the man whose true identity was then revealed.

Miryanov had only been in the country for 11 months at the time of the attack.
