Detective Faces Misconduct Hearing Over Double Murder Case

A detective has appeared in front of a misconduct hearing accused of not following arrest guidelines during a double murder investigation.

It is claimed that in 2011 Christopher Halliwell was not read his rights before leading Det Supt Steve Fulcher to the body of Becky Godden.

This failure lead to Halliwell not being prosecuted for the murder of Miss Godden.

Halliwell led police to the body of Miss Godden shortly after admitting the murder of 22-year-old Sian O'Callaghan.

In October 2012, Halliwell was jailed for the murder of Miss O'Callaghan, but has never stood trial for the murder of Miss Godden.

The misconduct hearing follows an investigation by the IPCC.
