Search Underway For Man Spotted In River Avon
A rescue operation is ongoing in a stretch of the River Avon in Bath after a man was reported as being in distress in the river.
Avon and Somerset Police responded to an emergency call in the area near Pine's Way at around 04:00.
It is understood that officers spoke to the man but were unable to get him out of the water before he went under again.
Water rescue crews and an RAF helicopter are involved in the search operation.

A body has been found floating in the River Avon in Bristol, police have confirmed. Police were called to the Hotwell Road area of Bristol on Wednesday afternoon following reports that a body had been spotted in the water by ferry workers.

A man has been arrested in Evesham on suspicion of attempted murder, following an incident at the River Avon, Boat Lane. Officers were called to the scene at around 9.19am after reports a car containing occupants had entered the river.

Search Dogs Recruited To Fire & Rescue Service
A new elite canine squad is joining the fire and rescue service in England to sniff out people trapped in collapsed buildings. Known as 'USAR' – Urban Search and Rescue Dogs – the dogs will be similar to those used in the aftermath of the Pakistan earthquake and the September 11 terrorist attacks and the Bocastle floods in Cornwall.
