Man Arrested Following Attempted Burglary

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary after being found in a cupboard at a petrol station.

Detectives had located the 37-year-old man, who is from Lancashire, at the service station at Bicker Bar roundabout on the A17 shortly before 4am this morning (28 February). They were responding to an alert that had been raised by the alarm monitoring company at the site.

It is understood the ATM at the premises was the intended target of the burglary.

Forensic examinations are continuing at the site.

Five Charged With Disorder

Detectives have confirmed five men have been charged in connection with disorder before a football match in Derby.

The incident happened prior to a football match between Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday last year.

The men were arrested after a fight broke out at the White Lion Pub on Market Place on 9 November 2013. The men, believed to be aged between 27 and 44, have been charged with affray.

They are expected to appear at North East Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates' Court next week.

Appeal Launched Following Assault

Merseyside Police have launched an appeal following reports of an assault.

On Saturday 15 February, officers were called to Church Road, Haydock, at around 4pm after they received a report that an assault had occurred at a house earlier in the day.

A woman is understood to have been outside the property, holding a baby, at around 10am when another woman who was driving by is thought to have stopped and checked to see if she was okay.

Detective Inspector Paul Unsworth said: "This motorist was kind enough to stop her car to check if the woman was okay.

"We believe she may have information which could help us with our inquiries and I would appeal to her to get in touch with us.

"Church Road is a busy 'A' road and other people driving past may also have seen something out of the ordinary. If you were in the area on that Saturday morning and noticed anything unusual, I'd urge you to get in contact with us."

Anyone with information can call detectives in St Helens on 01744 673151 or via the police non-emergency 101 number.

Detectives found nine growing cannabis plants as well as some cannabis ready for use, and its associated equipment at the address.

A 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cannabis production and is currently being questioned by police.

In a statement, Sussex Police said that this is the second find of cannabis-gorwing facilities in the area within two days, but stressed that the two finds are not connected.
