Marathon Runner Still Missing After Met Statement Retracted

Elite marathon runner, Mami Konneh Lahun, is missing following the end of the London Marathon on Sunday.

The 24-year-old athlete from Sierra Leone, has not been seen since the end of the race when she did not return to her accommodation after finishing the marathon in 20th place.

She was due to fly home on Monday, but did not show up for the flight.

Ms Lahun has a six-month visa to stay in the UK, the standard sportsperson visit visa given to all runner who come to the UK to race.

On Monday the Metropolitan Police had reported that Ms Lahun had been found safe and well but later retracted the statement.

Ms Lahun is not thought to have any links to the UK and is understood to not have a mobile phone.

The Home Secretary has confirmed that Sunday’s London marathon will have an extra police presence in light of the Boston Marathon bombings. Addressing MPs, Theresa May said "some adjustments to policing" had been. It follows the death of three people in explosions near the finish line of the Boston event.

Security Review For London Marathon
Following bomb attacks on the Boston Marathon on Monday, security for Sunday’s London marathon will be reviewed. Sports Minister Hugh Robertson said he was "absolutely confident" the London Marathon could be kept safe.

PSNI Man's Murder Probe Seek Marathon Videos
Detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch investigating the murder of Constable Ronan Kerr in Omagh in April have issued an appeal for photographic material. Police want anyone who took photos or videos in the area around the Highfield development while the Omagh Half Marathon was taking place to come forward.
