Pupil Remains In Custody Over Teacher Stabbing

A 15-year-old boy remains in police custody after a teacher was stabbed to death at a school in Leeds.

At 11.48am on Monday, police received reports of female teacher, now named as Anne Maguire, having been stabbed a number of times at Corpus Christi Catholic College.

The 61-year-old taught Spanish at the school. She was taken to hospital for treatment, but was later pronounced dead. Pupils, teachers and the local community have been leaving tributes outside the school for Mrs Maguire who taught at the college for more than 40 years.

The incident was witnessed by other pupils who raised the alarm and the pupil was detained by school staff on the premises before police and paramedics arrived at the scene.

Chief Superintendent Paul Money of West Yorkshire Police said a knife had been recovered from the scene.

Teacher In Court Over 'Pupil Attempted Murder'
A science teacher is to appear in court today charged with he attempted murder of one of his students at a Nottinghamshire school. Peter Harvey, 49, of Rannoch Drive, Mansfield, is accused of attacking 14-year-old Jack Waterhouse at All Saints’ Roman Catholic School in Mansfield on 8 July.
