Britain Offers Help To Nigeria After 200 Schoolgirls Kidnapped

Britain is offering "practical help" to Nigeria in an effort to secure the release of more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

The girls are pupils of an all-girls secondary school in Chibok, Borno state.

It is understood that the girls were taken in trucks into a remote area along the border with Cameroon.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague revealed the country's potential involvement alongside the US, after other countries have ignored the situation of the abducted girls.

It is claimed that the groups leader, Abubakar Shekau, has said that he plans to the girls.

Mr Hague told reporters in a Council of Europe meeting in Vienna: "We are offering practical help, what has happened here" and added that "the actions of Boko Haram to use girls as the spoils of war, the spoils of terrorism, is disgusting. It is immoral.”

Mr Hague did not want to discuss the exact help being offered, just as US authorities have avoided going into detail.

In a video and surrounded by armoured people, the Boko Harame leader admitted that he abducted the girls and said “I will sell them in the market, by Allah” after explaining that they are acting under their god instructions.

Boko Harame's names means “Western education is sinful” and the Shekau said in the video that the teenagers were undergoing Western education.
