Man Dies On Malton Rail Level Crossing Crash

A 77-year-old man has died after his car was struck by a train at Ivy Lea rail level crossing in Scampston, North Yorkshire at around 9.15 on Wednesday morning.

The train involved was the 08.48 BTS Scarborough to Liverpool Lime Street TransPennine Express Service.

No passengers were injured, however the train driver needed to be treated for shock, according to the British Transport Police.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "BTP officers are currently at the scene, alongside colleagues from North Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service."

As result of the crash, rail services in the area are enduring delays.

IPCC Ask North Yorkshire Police For Savile Review
North Yorkshire Police has been asked to review “all relevant material” relating to contact its officers had with Jimmy Savile. According to the BBC, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is acting "in light of information received" and said it wanted to know whether there were "conduct matters that should be referred to us".

Motorist killed in train collision
A driver has been killed after his car was hit by a train on rail tracks in Yorkshire. According to reports, the car left Moor Lane in Copmanthorpe, near York, at 8:55pm on Monday night, and crashed through a fence before ending up on the track. The train, a Virgin service from Plymouth to Edinburgh, was partially derailed by the collision.

House Destroyed In Gas Blast
A house has been destroyed and two more badly damaged in a suspected gas explosion in Sheffield. South Yorkshire Fire Service has said the blast was reported at the property in Dundas Road shortly after 9am this morning. A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: "Initial information indicates that gas is the source of the explosion.

North Yorkshire Police Will Not Face Savile Action
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has ruled that North Yorkshire Police will not face any action over contact between its officers and Jimmy Savile. The force had been investigated by the IPCC "in light of information received". They have now said that following a review of "all relevant material", there will be no further action.

Man Held In Cumbria Murder Probe
A man is being questioned on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found in her home in Cumbria at the weekend. The body of 52-year-old Nicola Bisset was found by in her home in Rivington Park in Appleby on Saturday, after North Yorkshire Police received a tip-off. The cause of death is still unknown.
