World Leaders Join To Remember D-Day Landings
World leaders have meet in Northern France to remember the D-Day landings and pay tribute to those who died when 150,000 troops landed on four beaches in Normandy.
The 70th anniversary is being marked in cemeteries and beaches across the region.
David Cameron has said world leaders should set aside their differences to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
World leaders travelled to remember the event, credited with changing the course of the Second World War, where they joined the Queen at Sword Beach, one of the five landing points for Allied forces.
Around 650 UK veterans are expected to be there alongside a total of 1,000 Normandy veterans.
Mr Cameron said: "Yes, we have our disagreements with Russia but we should never forget the Soviet Union was an ally of the forces that liberated this continent from the tyranny of Nazism and enabled generations to come to live in democracy, freedom and prosperity”.
Mr Hollande said in his speech at a US war cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer where the US president joined him, that every man who took part in the D-Day landings was a "hero" and that France would never forget what it owed them, nor would it forget its solidarity with the US.
President Obama also said in his speech at Colleville-sur-Mer: "America's claim, our commitment to liberty, to equality, to freedom, to the inherent dignity of every human being, that claim is written in blood on these beaches, and it will endure for eternity".

The royal trip will happen on a three-day state visit, which will be from 5 to 7 June. The Queen will be accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.

BBC World Service Cuts International Output
BBC World Service has released details of its response to a cut to its Grant-in-Aid funding from the UK's Foreign & Commonwealth Office - with fewer language services as a result. BBC World Service is to carry out a fundamental restructure in order to meet the 16% savings target required by the Government's Spending Review of 20 October last year.
