Hoax Bomb Man Sectioned

A man arrested for claiming to have brought a bomb on board a Qatar Airways passenger plane has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

The 47-year-old was arrested at Manchester Airport after the plane, carrying 269 passengers and 13 crew, was escorted into land by the RAF.

It is understood that the pilot raised the alarm after receiving information from flight crew about a possible device on board.

Police have said that the man arrested over the incident has been assessed by medical staff and a mental health team, and has been sectioned "for a fuller assessment".

Police Dig Up Pub Patio In Search For Missing Landlady
Police investigating the disappearance of a landlady in Cambridgeshire in 1997 are digging up the patio of her former pub. Deborah Steel, 37, was landlady of the Royal Standard in Ely, Cambridgeshire, when she disappeared on 28 December 1997. Police have said that Ms Steel's disappearance is now being treated as a murder investigation.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.

Seven Arrested On Suspicion Of Terrorist Fundraising
Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of terrorist financing offences, according to the Metropolitan Police. They were arrested at four separate addresses in London, Cardiff and Coventry at approximately 6am on suspicion of being concerned in the funding of a terrorist organisation, and laundering the proceeds of crime for that purpose.

Man Arrested In Mersey Murder Probe
Police in Merseyside have launched a murder investigation after the discovery of the body of an elderly woman in Stoneycroft yesterday. Emergency services were called at arround 10.40pm on Tuesday to a report of a fire at a property on Gorsewood Road, Belle Vale.

Body Found In Flat 'Dead For Years'
The body of a man who is believed to have been dead for a number of years has been discovered in a flat in Bristol. The corpse, understood to be that of the former tenant of the flat, was found on a sofa in the lounge by council workers, following reports from neighbours about a foul smell. The dead man is believed to have been a man in his 70s.
