Nato Protest Camp Set Up In Newport

A demonstration camp has been established at Tredegar Park in Newport ahead of next weeks Nato summit.

Five days before the summit is due to begin, a protest camp has been set up, including kitchens, toilets and washing facilities.

Thousands of protesters are expected to join the camp in the days leading up to the summit, with the first protest announced for Saturday.

Nine and a half thousand police officers, from 43 UK forces, are to police the two-event event being held at Celtic Manor Resort.

Numbers Swell At Lancashire Anti-Fracking Protest Camp
A protest camp has been established in a field near a proposed drilling site in Lancashire. Around 100 members of Reclaim the Power have joined a group of local women who established the anti-fracking camp in Little Plumpton, near Blackpool last week.

Balcombe Protest Camp To Close
An ongoing protest camp in West Sussex over exploratory oil drilling is to close, with the landowners being told that the protesters would leave the site on Wednesday. A number of arrests were made at the Reclaim The Power camp in Balcombe, including Green MP Coraline Lucas, over fracking it was suspected energy company Cuadrilla would carry out.

London Mayor Ken Livingstone is appealing against his suspension from the post over remarks made to a Jewish reporter. Mr Livingstone was given a four-week suspension by the Standards Board for England in February because of the affair.
