Scotland To Reduce Drink-Drive Limit
Scotland's drink-drive limit is being reduced.
The new legislation being introduced will mean a reduced drink-drive limit coming into effect from December 5, 2014.
Under the plans, Scotland's blood alcohol limit will be reduced from 80mg in every 100 ml of blood, to 50 mg in every 100 ml of blood, bringing Scotland into line with most other European countries.
The Scottish Government previously announced the intention to reduce the limit following a consultation which found almost three quarters of those who responded believed the drink-drive limit should be reduced.
Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: "I have said before that I am determined we do everything we can to make our roads safer and save lives. Drink driving shatters families and communities and we must take action to reduce the risk on our roads.
"The latest estimates show that approximately one in ten deaths on Scottish roads involve drivers who are over the legal limit and research shows that even just one alcoholic drink before driving can make you three times as likely to be involved in a fatal car crash.
"As a result, 20 families every year have to cope with the loss of a loved one and around 760 people are treated for injuries caused by someone who thought it was acceptable to drink alcohol and get behind the wheel and drive. We cannot let this continue."

Call for drink drive limit to be lowered in Scotland
The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland are calling for the Scottish Executive to consider lowering the current drink drive limit in a bid to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on Scotland's roads. The ACPOS is expected to present a paper to First Minister Alex Salmond within the next few weeks.

Highways Agency Given 18 Months To Reduce Pollution
The Highways Agency has been given an additional 18 months to propose alternative solutions to reduce pollution on a 32 mile stretch of the M1 in Derbyshire and part of the M3 in Surrey. A plan to impose a 60mph speed limit has been put on hold to allow the agency to devise new alternatives.

At the same time as the UK Government launched its £1.2m Christmas anti-drink-drive campaign it has also asked legal expert, Sir John North, to examine the legal drink-driving limit. The current limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood but there has been support for a lowering of the limit to 50 milligrams.

Charity Supports 21 Limit For Buying Alcohol In Scotland
A charity is throwing its weight behind increasing the limit for buying alcohol from 18 to 21 in Scotland. Alcohol Focus Chief Executive Jack Law says that making it illegal for anyone under 21 "would make a difference".
