Man Accused Of Sexual Abuse Found Dead

A 72-year-old man accused of 12 counts of sexual abuse has been found dead.

Former children's home manager John Stingermore was due to stand trial at Southwark Crown Court for charges related to alleged abuse at Grafton Close Children's Home in Hanworth. The alleged offences involved seven boys and took place in the 1970s and 1980s.

Police said that officers called to Mr Stingermore's home, in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, on Wednesday and found him collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem has not yet been carried out but police have said that they do not believe his death was suspicious.
