Police Appeal For Witnesses After Man Dies In Toilet Block Fire

Police in Oxfordshire have appealed to members of the public who tried to rescue a man from a burning toilet block in Oxford to contact them.

Jonathan Martin Mills, 49, from Oxford, died in the blaze on Southampton Street, Faringdon, at about 13:55 on Monday afternoon.

It is understood that a number of people had tried to free Mr Mills from the burning building before Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Services arrived at the scene.

Mr Mills, of Netherwoods Road, Risinghurst, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that a post-mortem examination was inconclusive and they are treating the death as "unexplained".

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw a white man wearing a light green and grey jacket and dark trousers in the vicinity of Southampton Street between 10:00 and 14:00.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Romanian Girl Feared Abducted In Scotland
Police in Glasgow are continuing their search for a teenage Romanian girl, amid fears that she may have been abducted. Irina Carpaci, 15, disappeared after leaving her home in Daisy Street in Govanhill, Glasgow, around 11am on Saturday.

Investigation Launched Into Hotel Body Find
A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a woman's body in a Hull hotel room. Police said they were called to the Ibis hotel on Osborne Street at 13:00 on Sunday, where they discovered the body of a woman. She is yet t be identified.

Riot Police Deployed As G8 Protesters Occupy Former Police Station
Some 100 riot police have been deployed in central London as protestors take to the streets to demonstrate ahead on the G8 summit being held in Northern Ireland next week. Officers were sent to Soho, where protesters are thought to have occupied a former police station on Beak Street.
