Report Calls For Online Courts System
A new report by the Civil Justice Council has recommended a new "online court" system to deal with low value cases.
The report raises concerns that the current court system is "too costly, too slow, and too complex".
In the Online Dispute Resolution report, the council calls on the HM Courts & Tribunals Services to establish a new, internet-based court service, to be known as HM Online Court (HMOC).
Under HMOC, members of the Judiciary would decide cases on an online basis, interacting electronically with parties. It claims that this system would achieve earlier resolutions.
The report predicts two "major benefits" to the new system; an increase in access to justice (a more affordable and user-friendly service) and substantial savings in the cost of the court system.
A pilot of the new system has been recommended ahead of potential full roll-out by 2017.

Local community to gain role in running of courts system

New Courts To Hear Minor Traffic Offences
Minor traffic offences will now be prosecuted in new dedicated traffic courts, following completion of pilot schemes in nine areas. The new dedicated courts are being established to try and free up magistrates and cut delays in the criminal justice system. Currently some 500,000 minor motoring offences going through British court each year.

New Colour-Coded Schools Rating System Revealed For Wales
A new colour-coded rating system for Welsh schools has been revealed by Education Minister Huw Lewis. Under the new system 236 schools in Wales have been rated 'green', meaning they have performed the best, while 81 schools have been rated 'red'.

Domestic Violence Victims To Receive Extra Support
Victims of Domestic Violence will receive extra help and support from 18 new Specialist Domestic Violence Courts, Justice Minister Bridget Prentice has announced. The new courts will be located in Eastern England, East Midlands, London, North East, North West, South West, West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humberside.

Home Office division creates Ministry of Justice
The Home Office has been split in two a year on from Home Secretary John Reid's comments that it was "not fit for purpose." A new Ministry of Justice has been formed, headed by the Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, who will take responsibility for probation and sentencing.
