Pupils Hurt In Bus Crash

Eleven school pupils needed hospital treatment after the roof of a double-decker bus was ripped off when it hit a railway bridge.

It is understood that the bus, carrying 76 pupils on an end-of-term trip, took a wrong turn in Staines, Surrey.

There are no reports of any serious injuries, however eleven pupils where taken to hospital for "minor injuries".

Duke And Duchess Tour Stephen Lawrence Centre

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have visited the Stephen Lawrence Centre, in Deptford, south London.

The Royals joined Baroness Lawrence for a tour of the centre, which was established in memory of her son who was murder in south-east London in April 1993.

The centre offers training courses for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

It is understood this is the last Royal event ahead of the birth of the Duchess's second child.

John Renbourn Dies Aged 70

World renowned folk musician John Renbourn has died aged 70.

It is understood that the guitarist was found at his home in Hawick in the Scottish Borders after a suspected heart attack.

The musician's manager, Dave Smith, announced the news.

Over 500 Pupils Evacuated In School Fire
More than 500 pupils were evacuated from a school in north west London when a fire broke out in the roof the building. 65 staff and 540 pupils evacuated the school on Goodson Road in Willesden when the fire alarm sounded on Tuesday afternoon. There were no reports of any injuries.

Education strategy to focus on ethnic minorities
A new national strategy launched today aims to lift the achievement of ethnic minority pupils, and will focus on raising standards for black children in school. Only 30% of all black pupils got five or more good GCSEs (grades A* to C) in 2002, compared to a national average of 51%.

Ofsted Report Condemns Muslim Free School
Ofsted inspectors have condemned a Muslim free school, open for less than a year, as "dysfunctional" and inadequate in every category of its inspection. The regulator had been due to inspect the Al-Madinah school in Derby at the end of its first year, however following reports of concerns about teaching standards and treatment of pupils.
