Two Attacked By Dog In Staffordshire

Two people have been injured after they were attacked by a dog in Mid-Staffordshire.

A three-year-old boy and his grandmother were injured in the incident, which occurred at a family farm in Mid-Staffordshire on Wednesday evening.

Shortly after 5pm, emergency services were called to the scene after a Dogue De Bordeaux – French Mastiff – dog is believed to have escaped from its pen and attacked the child and his grandmother in the farm yard.

The boy sustained a broken leg in the attack, as well as numerous cuts and puncture wounds to his face and body. His grandmother was bitten a number of times as she tried to protect her grandson.

The boy, who has not been named, is in a stable condition at Birmingham Children's Hospital having undergone an operation. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. His grandmother is recovering at the Royal Stoke Hospital after an operation to treat her wounds.

Police have said the dog has since been destroyed and a man in his 60s has been arrested and bailed under section 3A of the Dangerous Dogs Act. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
