Taxi Lands Upside Down On Railway Line After Crashing Through Barrier

A taxi has crashed through a barrier and landed upside down on a railway line in West Yorkshire.

According to reports the car collided with a barrier next to the railway line on Victoria Street in Shipley.

Paramedics were called to the scene at 09:10 on Friday morning, the driver suffered minor injuries.

Rail services between Shipley and Skipton have been suspended until 13:00 at the earliest, Northern Rail has said.

Police investigating a 14-year-old murder case have arrested a man on suspicion of her murder. Vikki Thompson, a 30-year-old mother-of-two from Ascott-under-Wynchwood, Oxfordshire, was found badly beaten and unconscious by the side of a railway line near her home on August 12, 1995.

Landslip Closes Railway Line
A landslip in the Chipping Sodbury area has closed the main line running between London to Bristol and South Wales. The landslip has closed the closure of the line between Bristol Parkway and Swindon in both directions. First Great Western has released details of changes in services as a result of the incident.

Queen Opens £294m Borders Railway
The Queen has opened a new railway between Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders. Her Majesty, who has been named Britain's longest serving monarch today, 09 September, was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. The line between Tweedbank and Edinburgh was opened to the public on 06 September.

£9bn Railway Investment Announced
The government has unveiled a £9.4bn package of investment in the railways in England and Wales, including £4.2bn of new schemes. The plans include electrification of the Midland Main Line between Bedford and Sheffield and improvements for the Manchester area, south Wales and East Coast Main Line.
