Ed Balls Loses Morley And Outwood Seat

Labour's former shadow chancellor Ed Balls has lost his election seat to Conservative candidate Andrea Jenkyns.

Mr Balls lost his Morley and Outwood seat by 422 votes after a recount.

Earlier Labour leader Ed Miliband spoke of how it had been a "very disappointing and difficult night for the party" after Labour lost 40 seats in Scotland to the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Mr Miliband added: ""We have not made the gains we wanted in England and Wales, and in Scotland we have seen a surge of nationalism overwhelm our party.

"I want to say to all the dedicated and decent colleagues in Scotland who have lost their seats that I am deeply sorry for what has happened".
