4.2 Magnitude Quake Recorded In Kent

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in Kent, the British Geological Survey (BGS) has confirmed.

The tremor occurred at 2.52am on Friday.

It is understood the epicentre was approximately 7km south of Ramsgate at a depth of 15km underground.

The BGS said it had received hundreds of reports from members of the public, with residents in Margate, Canterbury, Herne Bay and Southend-on-Sea all feeling the quake.

Kent Police said it had also received a number of calls, but there had been no reports of injuries or structural damage to buildings. Kent Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed no reports of injuries.

Magnitude 3.8 Earthquake Recorded In West Midlands
A 3.8 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in Oakham, Rutland, in the west Midlands, the British Geological Survey has reported. The earthquake was recorded at precisely 22:25:54 on Wednesday night and occurred at a depth of 8km.

Man Dies In London Blaze
A man has died following a blaze at a block of flats in south-east London. Firefighters found the man collapsed on the fourth floor of the seven floor building at 11.30pm on Tuesday. London Fire Brigage (LFB) said that three engines and around 15 firefighters were deployed to tackle the fire at the building in Steadman Street, Walworth, Southwark.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

‘Piano Man’ returns home to Germany
The mysterious ‘Piano Man’ has been identified and has been discharged from hospital, it has emerged. West Kent NHS and Social Care Trust, which had been caring for the man since April, confirmed that he had been discharged from their care following a “marked improvement” in his condition.

Two People Killed In House Fire
Two people have been killed in a house fire in Deal, Kent. The blaze broke out at the house in Quern Road around 5.30am and was tackled by more than 20 firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene. It is understood that the two victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
