Unions Announce Tata Steel Strike
Unions have agreed a date for strike action over an ongoing pension dispute at Tata Steel.
Industrial action will take place on 22 June at the plant site.
Unite National Officer, Paul Reuter, said: "Strike action is the last resort for our members, but they’ve signalled very clearly that they are not prepared to stand by and see the retirement they have worked so hard for, in such a physically demanding environment, robbed from them."
"We would urge the company to do the right thing and enter into further meaningful talks to avoid the disruption of industrial action."
Man Arrested Following Series Of Fires
A 22-year-old man has been arrested following a series of fire in Maidstone.
Several fires caused damage to a number of cars and shops in the town's centre.
Police were called at 1.16am on 8 June to reports that five cars had been set alight in the Buckand Road and Somerfield Road.
At 2.11am, it was reported The Works bookstore in Week Street was on fire and had spread to adjoining properties.
Firefighters remain at the scene.
Following the arrest, Police are appealing for information.
Chief Superintendent Steve Corbishley said: "We are continuing to work closely with investigators from Kent Fire and Rescue Service to determine the exact cause of these incidents.
"We are also reviewing CCTV throughout parts of the town as part of our enquiries.
"The fires were all started within an hour of each other and whilst we have a person in custody it is important that anyone with any information comes forward."
Cyclist Killed In Road Collision
A 46-year-old cyclist has been killed after a fatal road collision with a car in Derby.
The incident happened at approximately 5.30pm on the B6039 Chesterfield Road at Hardstoft on 7 June.
The victim, from Hasland, received fatal injuries after colliding with the vehicle.
The driver of the car was voluntarily interviewed by officers.
Police are appealing for witnesses.

Firefighters Tackle Overnight Church Blaze
Firefighters in Glasgow have fought a blaze at a church in the city over night. Emergency services where alerted to the fire on Crossloan Road, Govan at about 22:30 on Sunday. Residents in a neighbouring four-storey tenement had to be evacuated during the incident, with a number of them put up in emergency accommodation.

Overnight Mountain Fire Deliberate - SWFS
Fire crews in South Wales worked through the night tackling a large wild fire in Caerphilly county. More than 700 acres of mountain in Wattsville, near Crosskeys, were affected by a fire, which the fire service believe was started deliberately. Twelve fire engines were on the scene, which sits above the Tata Steel Plant.

Firefighters Re-Commit To Strike Action
In an ongoing dispute over pensions, firefighters in England and Wales have committed to two more strikes in the run-up to bonfire night. The dispute is centred around the government wanting firefighters to work until aged 60, but the Fire Brigades Union has argued that this is too old to be fighting fires.

Digger driver charged over house 'demolition'
A 52-year-old man has been charged with criminal damage offences after a house and cars were destroyed by a mechanical digger. Robert Taylor, of no fixed address, is due to appear before magistrates in Chelmsford charged with criminal damage with intent to endanger life.
