Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Slavery Offences

A 62-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of slavery, servitude and forced labour offences.

The man was detained this morning 1 July in Peterstone, Newport.

He was arrested by officers from Gwent Police's Operation Imperial team.

The operation is an ongoing investigation into offences committed against vulnerable adults.

Detective Superintendent Paul Griffiths said: "For over two years now, the Operation Imperial team has been investigating very serious offences committed against some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.

"A number of people have been arrested and charged and one has been convicted as a result of the investigation and we remain committed to bringing victims to safety and offenders to Justice."

A man in his 60s has been arrested as part of the Jimmy Savile Operation Yewtree. The man, from London, is being questioned at a south London police station, following his arrest at 06.45am, on suspicion of sexual offences, according to the Metropolitan Police. Seven Arrested On Suspicion Of Terrorist Fundraising
Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of terrorist financing offences, according to the Metropolitan Police. They were arrested at four separate addresses in London, Cardiff and Coventry at approximately 6am on suspicion of being concerned in the funding of a terrorist organisation, and laundering the proceeds of crime for that purpose.

Dave Lee Travis Charged With 12 Offences
Police have confirmed former BBC Radio 1 presenter, Dave Lee Travis, has been charged with 12 historical sexual offences. Mr Travis, whose real name is David Patrick Griffin, faces 11 counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual assault, the Crown Prosecution Service has said. He will appear before Westminster magistrates on 23 August.

Fresh Allegations Made Against Dave Lee Travis
Ex-Radio 1 DJ and Top of the Pops presenter Dave Lee Travis has been arrested for a second time, following fresh allegations of sexual offences, Scotland Yard has confirmed. Mr Travis, of Mentmore, Bucks, was arrested on Monday after answering bail following his first arrest in November 2012 as part of Operation Yewtree.
