Final Portsmouth IS Fighter Killed

The final member of a group of men from Porstmouth who travelled to fight for Islamic State (IS) is understood to have been killed.

Assad Uzzaman, 25, was one of five men who left the UK in October 2013 to fight for the radical Islamic group in Syria.

His death was reported by Shiraz Maher, an academic who tracks the movements of foreign fighters in Syria and Iraq.

The senior research fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR) at Kings College in London tweeted: "The last of the Portsmouth cluster of fighters with Islamic State, Assad Uzzaman (Abu Abdullah) has died."

Three other men from the group, Mehdi Hassan, Mamunur Roshid and Hamidur Rahman, have previously died in Syria.

A fifth man, Mashudur Choudhury, returned to the UK after a few weeks and became the first person in the UK to be convicted of terrorist offences in connection with the Syrian conflict.

Police in Walsall have appealed for help in tracing a group of men wanted in connection with an attack on a woman as she tried to intervene in a fight. A 20-year-old woman suffered two fractures to her jaw when she was punched from behind as she tried to stop a large group of men from fighting.

Over 200 Teenagers Attend East London Fight
Over 200 teenagers were present at a fight outside a tube station in east London, police have said. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Walthamstow. Officers received reports shortly after 5pm of a large group teenagers causing a disturbance between Hoe Street and Station Approach.

George Awarded Damages Over 'Obsession'
The man cleared of murdering TV presenter Jill Dando after spending seven years in jail has won damages over newspaper claims. Barry George brought the case over claims that he was obsessed with singer Cheryl Cole and newsreader Kay Burley. The claims were made in the Sunday Mirror, the People and on the Daily Mirror website in 2008.

Four Arrested Over Denton Fight Death
Four people, including a 15-year-old male, have been charged with the murder of a man in Denton, Greater Manchester. Police responded to reports of a fight between a group of men on Manchester Road at about 3am on Sunday 07 June. When they arrived officers found a number of men fighting. Two men had suffered serious injuries.
