UK Construction Output Falls In August

Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed a fall in construction output for the month of August.

In August 2015, output in the UK's construction industry dropped by 4.3% compared with July 2015. Compared with August 2014, it fell by 1.3%, its first year-on-year fall since May 2013.

All new work declined by 3.6% in August, compared to the previous month, while repair and maintenance (R&M) fell by 5.6% over the same period. All work types reported decreases, the ONS added.

Elsewhere, between June and August 2015, construction output fell by 0.8% when compared to the previous quarter (March to May 2015). Repair and maintenance decreased by 3.6% while all new work increased by 0.7%.

Comparing the months June to August 2015 with the same period in 2014, construction output is thought to have risen by 1.8%, while all new work increased by 5.6%, but repair and maintenance decreased by 4.6%.

Inflation Drops To 0% In August
Inflation fell to 0% in August, new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have revealed. The UK's national inflation rate fell from 0.1% in July, as measured by the Consumer Price Index. The ONS figures also show that the Retail Prices Index (RPI) rose from 1.0% in July to 1.1% in August.

Unemployment falls, but claimant count rises
The number of unemployed people in the UK fell by 7,000 to 1.4 million between June and August, the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics have revealed.

UK Unemployment Falls
New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that unemployment in the UK now stands at 5.7%, having fallen by 97,000 in the three months to December. This means the number of adults now in work stands at 73.2%. The figures also show an increase in average earnings with bonuses, up 2.1% compared to a year earlier.

Number Of Tourists To UK Falls
New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that despite the Olympics the number of visitors to the UK fell in August, but the amount they spent rose. Overseas residents made three million visits to the UK in the month, down 5% from August 2011, according to the ONS.

Four Arrested Over Rape In Slough
Four men have been arrested in connection with the rape of a teenage girl near the Jubilee River in Slough on Friday. The men, aged 19, 20, 33 and 33, were arrested on Sunday night. Two men, aged 19 and 20, remain in police custody. The two 33-year-old men have been bailed until 3rd August, according to Thames Valley Police.
