Police mount Clean Sweep against drug dealers

Operation Clean Sweep swept into action this morning, as 360 police officers carried out 28 search warrants against suspected drug dealers across Cheshire and Merseyside.

More than 360 officers took part in the raids carrying out 29 search warrants in the largest operation undertaken by the Cheshire Constabulary. Police have described the operation as a "major success" with 17 arrests made by 8am.

The warrants consisted of seven in Merseyside, one in Crewe, with the remainder in the Northwich and Winsford areas.

Officers set off from the Witton Albion Football Club in Northwich in the early hours of this morning to raid premises in Merseyside, Crewe, Northwich and Winsford.

In a press briefing at 5am this morning, Detective Chief Inspector Neil Ellwood said: "This operation is a culmination of work we have been doing since December last year. It is a response to community concerns largely in the Vale Royal area."

Chief Inspector Ellwood went on to praise the public for their patience whilst the Constabulary put the operation in place.
