PM resting after hospital heart treatment
Prime Minister Tony Blair is resting today after he received hospital treatment for an irregular heartbeat yesterday.
A Downing Street spokesman said that Mr Blair went Hammersmith hospital on Sunday morning after feeling "under the weather". It was established that he had an irregular heartbeat, and he received treatment - including a cardio-version - over 4-5 hours.
The spokesman added: "The hospital say this is a relatively common condition and is easily treated. He has suffered no damage and is fine. There is no reason why this should re-occur. They have advised him to rest for 24 hours."
While the prime minister recuperates, the Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has been tasked to deliver the UK's European Council statement today.
Downing Street say that the PM expects to be back at his desk full-time from tomorrow morning.

Reid gives 'green light' for £4bn PFI hospital deal

First Concorde flys to last resting place
A proposal to maintain one airworthy Concorde for flypasts and airshows has been scrapped by BA following a feasibility study. The technical feasibility study, headed by Captain Mike Bannister, Concorde chief pilot, has concluded that it not possible to keep one of the supersonic airliners in an airworthy condition.

Police Appeal For Witnesses To 'Serious Collision' Near Pickering
North Yorkshire Police have appealed for witnesses to a "serious collision" near Pickering on Friday 01 May. It is understood that three cars – a black Peugeot 106, a black Mercedez and a black Honda Civic – were involved in a collision at about 22:00 on the A169 Pickering to Whitby road.

Mother Of Baby Abandoned In Arcade Charged With Attempted Murder
The mother of a child found abandoned in the toilets of an amusement arcade in Southport, has been arrested. The newborn baby was found by staff at Silcock's Amusements in Merseyside, last Thursday. The child is being cared for by staff at Ormskirk Hospital, Lancashire later, who have named her April.

15 Asylum Seekers Found In Tanker At Dover
The Port of Dover declared a "critical incident" after 15 asylum seekers were found on Wednesday inside a tanker on a cross-Channel ferry, P&O's Spirit of France. It is understood that three of the asylum seekers needed hospital treatment following their discovery. Two tanker drivers have also been arrested.
