'Squeaky toy' turns out to be abandoned baby boy
A teenager who thought that a small object outside a chip shop was a squeaky toy was horrified to discover that a baby had been abandoned on the step outside a Glasgow chip shop.
The teenager described his fright when he touched the object and found that the tiny feet were moving.
The baby, which had been wrapped in a red fleece and a towel, was taken to Glasgow's Southern General Hospital where he was named "Matthew".
Nursing staff said that they thought that the baby boy is only two or three days old and had been left on the step for only a few minutes before he was discovered. His condition was described as "well".
Police have appealed for the mother of the boy to come forward as she may be in need of urgent medical assistance.

Missing Baby Found 'Safe And Well'
A nine-month-old baby girl who was reported missing from her home in Glouchestershire on Monday has been found safe and well. Maylayah Delaney had been reported missing by her mother shortly before lunch-time on Monday. Police have confirmed that a man from the West Midlands is helping them with their inquiries.

A pregnant woman has been attacked with a baseball bat and a knife at her home in Basildon, Essex. The 22-year-old woman, who was in labour, was getting ready to leave her home with her partner to go to the hospital when a gang raided her home. She was hit with a baseball bat and slashed with a knife.

Baby Dies After Being Bitten By Family Pet
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a baby bitten by dog in Sunderland. The three-week-old baby boy died in hospital following an incident at his home in Falkland Road. Police were called to the address at 04:15 on Saturday, 20 June. It is understood that the baby had been bitten by the families pet dog.

Police Trace Mother Of Dead Baby Girl
Police have traced the mother of a dead baby girl whose body was found on a cycle track in Port Glasgow last month. The baby's body was found in a holdall by a jogger on September 26. Strathclyde Police confirmed that they had traced the 22-year-old mother of the baby.
